Respite is a period of relief.
Owensboro Christian Church’s Respite Program is designed to give parents/ caregivers of a child with special needs a break from their ongoing care-giving responsibilities. The program allows family members to go out for the morning, take care of other needs, or simply take a break.

The Respite Program is for anyone age 21 and younger.

Our Buddy Program partners with all Next Gen ministries to provide loving support that allows individuals and families with disabilities to access all church programs. In this ministry, trained volunteers are partnered with your child (age three through high school) while they participate in their age-appropriate Next Gen program.

The Buddy Program is available during the 9:15AM and 10:45AM services for children birth to 5th grade.

Who is Eligible?

21 and under with special needs and their siblings.

How Much Does It Cost?

The program is free. No one is denied services.

Who Will Care For My Child?

Volunteers are individuals with experience or those who have a strong passion to work with children.

What to Expect?

Each child is paired with a buddy (volunteer) who provides one-on-one care and assistance as everyone has fun playing games, making crafts, listening to music, watching puppets, and more.

When & Where?

The Respite program takes place on the second Saturday of selected months (beginning January 9 from 9am-noon). The Buddy program meets weekly during the 9:15 and 10:45AM services. Volunteers are needed for both programs.

Can I Volunteer?

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, a completed volunteer application with background check as well as attending one of our training sessions is required to be a volunteer in this ministry.  Please contact Russ Smith if you are interested in volunteering.

Make a Special Connection Today!

If you are interested in volunteering with the Special Connections ministry please fill out the volunteer application. When that is complete, download, print and fill out the “Background Check Authorization Form” and bring it to the Owensboro Christian Church office Monday-Thursday from 9am-5pm.
