We live in tumultuous times. We are witnessing continual, contentious, and often complicated political realities. We’re frequently forced to process these in real time, which separates our generation from those who have gone before. It’s tempting either to despair over the leaders we have and the choices they make or to put undue hope in our leaders, thinking they’ll be the one who finally fixes things and gets the ship righted. First and Second Kings reminds us that while human leaders are important—good ones help and bad ones harm and most frankly do a little of both—they are not ultimate. The ultimate answer and hope we need is not found within fallible leaders; it’s found within a faithful God.
